Ask anyone about their past learning experiences and they will always talk about being in a classroom with other students. It conjures up images of a teacher focused environment with all eyes to the front. Some agree that this approach to teaching is, and always has been the best. The teacher can facilitate the lesson and use appropriate resources to aide learning. This is how it has always been so why change it?
Well, with our lives getting busier and our careers becoming more stressful, we tend to rely on technology more and more. I mean, where would we be without our smartphones or easy access to our social media sites? What did we do before Facebook??
So if we rely on technology for just about everything else, why not use it in the classroom... or rather as the classroom. Online teaching is becoming more popular nowadays and the benefits are clear. One on one teaching in a student centered environment, access to a wealth of online resources that can be shared with students at the click of a button.
The biggest advantage of online over classroom is freedom. You don't need to travel to a school or worry about availability of classes in your area. You have the freedom to learn from anywhere in the world, from teachers who can be based in different cities, or even on different continents!
Traditional classroom learning does have its advantages, but in a fast paced era, let the entire world be your classroom.
